Tech's Wreck
The vintage car that has led the football team onto Grant Field before Yellow Jackets games since 1961 was wrecked for real as it was being towed to Savannah to be used in a wedding.
Tech officials said Wednesday that they hope to get repairs done to the 1930 Model A Sports Coupe mascot in time for the home opener against Samford.
"It's gonna lead the team out on the field for that Sept. 8 football game, that's for sure," associate athletic director Wayne Hogan told WAGA-TV.
Tech senior John Bird and his brother, Matt, were hauling the Wreck on a flatbed truck on Friday when there was "a grinding noise" and "we hit the ditch and the Wreck fell on its side," Bird said.
The brothers received minor injuries, but the car was damaged on its roof and side, he said.
"We took a vote, and decided pretty much unanimously that there wouldn't be any pictures of it wrecked," said senior John Bird, the car's elected driver. "We might have some photos of reconstruction, but not of it wrecked.
"It's just honestly the spirit of the vehicle. We don't want to tarnish that. It's a mystique. We don't want it to be lost."
Yeah, God forbid Georgia Tech lose it's mystique.

Vick repents, want to help the community
On my way home today, I decided to stop over in Sugarloaf to talk with my old buddy Mike Vick. Let me tell you friends, the man sure is sorry. He told me that he never meant to hurt any dogs, and thought that he was just doing a public service by exterminating extremely violent, emotionally damaged dogs in a semi-humane way. Frankly, I believe him. He's clearly a great man, with a great vision. Some men are just created with an amazing ability to see the world around them, and make decisions that leave us all in awe. Don't hate. On my way out, he wanted me to take a picture of him on his latest venture: selling slaves. I asked him if that was still legal, and he said: "I don't give a shit, we got to start making money selling our own people before you rich-assed white people start doing it again and making all the money. I wished him the best, and declined his free sample. That Mike Vick, what a guy.
